Winter is upon us. Which means that the roads are going to be icy and covered in snow. Being prepared for this treacherous season can be very important and very rewarding.

To start we can look more towards ourselves as drivers on the road. By doing so we allow us to be sure that we are safe and our children are safe. Thankfully there are winter driving tips and methods that can help us stay safe in the hazardous driving conditions.

Car Preparations

Making sure that our cars are well-maintained it’s probably one of the more important tips of all. One of the first things that should be done it’s a test of the car’s battery. A car battery power drops when the temperature outside drops.

Another thing to look into is the car’s cooling system. Make sure that it’s in working order.

The tire tread wear of a car is about 2/32 of an inch or more. Especially if the tires on the car are all-season tires. This will help keep the car from sliding all over the place on the road.

Be sure to check the tire pressure because the cold temperature will cause the air pressure to decrease. This is a cause-based on air molecules moving slower as if it was hotter the iron molecules will move faster.

 

Winter Driving

It’s important to have some form of winter driving safety measures to put in a place. In this case, we want to make sure we are fully aware of the winter hazards. This also takes pass the more common rules of driving such as keeping our eyes on the road.

One thing we want to keep in mind is the spacing between the two vehicles while driving. We want to make sure that we are at least a few feet apart in case of an emergency. There shouldn’t be a time where the bumpers should be arm’s length from each other.

Going up hills can be very scary and it’s best not to hit the brakes while going up a hill.

Knowing what a vehicle can do can also be a lifesaver. If the knowledge of the vehicle of what it can do is unknown, try looking up the vehicle. By looking up the vehicle, we can look up the safety features already built into the car.

Emergency Winter preparations on the road

Another important thing to winter weather driving safety is to always be prepared in case the vehicle as broken down. When a car breaks down, an individual may not know what will happen to them. This is why it comes in many versions of winter weather safe driving tips to have some sort of emergency plan.

One such plan is also to have in an emergency items list possibly put in the trunk of the vehicle. Having a list of emergency items not only ensures the survival of a person’s well-being but the well-being of others. This emergency list can also be used to help anyone able to assist during a car’s breakdown.
